Because of YOU, Irene Found More Than a Residence at Bob Hope Village… “I Found My Home.”

March 6, 2026

After a lifetime shaped by military service, Irene has finally found the place she calls home. As the spouse of an Air Force service member for more than 20 years, Irene and her family moved frequently, living at more than 13 military bases across the United States and abroad. Through each move, she supported her husband’s service while raising their three boys, embracing the challenges and sacrifices that come with military life.

After her husband passed away, Irene spent several years on her own, searching for a place where she truly belonged. “I roamed about, but I could never find my place,” she shared. That changed when she moved into Bob Hope Village just this past year. “I’m home,” Irene says. “I found my home.”

At Bob Hope Village, Irene is surrounded by fellow military widows who understand her experiences and share her history. That sense of connection has been deeply meaningful. She stays active and engaged, enjoying biking, dancing, and crocheting, and she volunteers at the front desk—an experience she says has helped her make many new friends in a short period oftime. “I have such wonderful neighbors. I like to see someone smile every day.”

Irene also speaks warmly about the community that supportsher. She “loves, loves, loves the caring staff” and feels truly valued and cared for. Her gratitude extends especially to supporters like you who make life at Bob Hope Village possible. “I don’t know if the donors know how thankful we truly are for their help— especially for residents living on subsidies,” she says.

Her three sons share that gratitude. They take comfort in knowing their mother is safe, happy, and surrounded by a loving community. “They love my apartment, my neighbors— everything about this place!” Irene says with a huge smile.

Thank you for making Irene’s story possible. Your generosity helps ensure that military widows can find not just a place to live, but a place to belong.
