CMSAF Binnicker Memorial Run Scheduled for Saturday Moves to Virtual Event Due to Weather

October 1, 2026

In-person race canceled for Saturday; Packet Pickup and Pasta Dinner will continue as planned Friday at Bob Hope Village

Shalimar, Fla.(October 1, 2026) – After carefully monitoring the weather forecast and consulting with local safety officials, Air Force Enlisted Village (AFEV) officials have made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person CMSAF Binnicker Memorial Run scheduled for this Saturday.

‍

“The safety of our runners, volunteers, staff, and community members must always come first. With the potential for severe weather and unsafe conditions, we do not feel it is prudent to proceed with an in-person event,” AFEV President and CEO said.

‍

All registered participants will have the opportunity to complete their race virtually. Participants may run or walk their registered distance wherever and whenever it is convenient and safe for them.

‍

Registrations will automatically be converted to the virtual event. Participants are encouraged to complete their race by Sunday, October 11, share their photos, and celebrate their accomplishment with AFEV online. More details about submitting results and sharing photos will be sent via email.

‍

The Packet Pickup and the Pasta Dinner will continue as planned on Friday, October 2, in the Bob Hope Village Commons Ballroom.

‍

Friday, October 2, 2026
Packet Pickup: 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Pasta Dinner: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Location: Bob Hope Village Commons Ballroom

‍

Participants are asked to come to Packet Pickup on Friday to receive their event shirt, challenge coin, race bib, and swag bag.

‍

“While we won't be together at the starting line this year, the spirit of this event remains unchanged. Every mile completed virtually honors Chief Binnicker and supports our residents who reside in our memory care wing,” McLean said.

‍

The 12thAnnual CMSAF Binnicker Memorial Run honors the legacy of Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James C. Binnicker, who served as president and CEO of AFEV from 2000 to 2015, and supports the memory care wing at AFEV’s assisted living facility, Hawthorn House, where military widows, retirees, veterans, and their families with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease reside.
